Raymond Warner Wehrle

Raymond Wehrle, 86 of Lynnville went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am Monday, July 9, 2012 at the Taintor Community Church in Taintor with Pastor David Pinkerton officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the Taintor Community Church. Interment with military honors by the Coffin-Miller American Legion Post #446 will be held in the Sully Cemetery in Sully. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Taintor Community Church or the Lynnville First Responders.

Raymond Warner Wehrle, son of Paul and Lula (Dillman) Wehrle was born on March 26, 1926 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He graduated from New Sharon High School in 1943. Following graduation, Raymond served in the United States Army in the Southern Pacific Theater. After Raymond was honorably discharged in 1946, he began farming with his father. On September 1, 1949, Raymond was united in marriage to Trudy Van Wyk. To this union two children were born, Marvin and Mary.

Raymond and Trudy lived, farmed and raised their family on the Wehrle family homestead west of Taintor. After 48 years they moved to Lynnville. Raymond stayed active in farming, helping his son and grandsons. He never really did retire. Raymond most enjoyed being with his family and friends. He loved to play cards with his family and also his Lynnville buddies. Raymond was a member of the Coffin-Miller American legion Post #446 and a lifelong member of the Taintor Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Trudy of Lynnville; his son Marvin (Ellen) Wehrle; Jason (Melissa) Wehrle, Nicole and Brayden; Keith Wehrle; Cheinette Van Wyk, Dustin (Jennifer) Van Wyk, Trevor and Hunter; Derrick (Meridith) Van Wyk, Trinity, Jackson and Aubrey; Devon, Carly, Paige, Benjamin and Yana Van Wyk; Douglas (Renae) Gillam, Dakota, Cierra and Ryane; Jacqueline (Nick) Sklenar, Jackson and Nolan; Michael (Stephanie) Vogt and Wang Lu. Raymond was also survived by his daughter, Mary (Jerry) Van Severen and Eric (Heather) Van Severen and Sophie, Emma, Josh and Lily; and Marc (Shelby) Van Severen and Tayler. Also, Raymond is survived by a brother, Norman (Loretta) Wehrle; a sister, Lois Van Wyk; a brother-in-law, Arvin (Anna Mae) Van Wyk; seven sisters-in-law, Grace (Eldred) Van Gorp, June (Ron) Kramer, Joyce (Carl) DeGoey, Darlene (Harris) Vos, Helen (Verlan) Brand, Carolyn (Larry) Vande Voort and Judy (Ed) Van Kooten; many nieces and nephews.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lula Wehrle; his father and mother-in-law, Cornie and Artie Van Wyk and a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Harriet Van Wyk.

Raymond was a kind and loving man. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
