David Martin Holland

David Holland, 83 of Washington passed away Saturday morning, November 24, 2012 at the McCreedy Home in Washington. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Chapel in What Cheer. A visitation/luncheon will be held immediately following the service at Thomas Hall in What Cheer. Burial will be held at a later date at the White Oak Cemetery near Thornburg. Memorial contributions may be directed to the David Holland memorial fund.

David Martin Holland, son of Edward and Cressie Belle (Griggs) Holland, was born on September 18, 1929 in Thornburg, Iowa. He graduated from Thornburg High School in 1947. On July 9, 1951, David was united in marriage to Lois Jean Quist in Oskaloosa. To this union three sons were born, Tony, Kent and Jon. David enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950, serving two years in Germany. After he was honorably discharged in 1954, David farmed in the Thornburg area until 1960. In 1960, he began working as a book keeper for Farmers COOP in Akron for nine years. In 1969, David was promoted to manager at Farmers COOP in Keota. In 1972, David began to drive the LP truck for the COOP retiring in 1993. He enjoyed golfing, camping and wintering in Texas. David was an avid Hawkeye fan. He was a member of the White Oak United Presbyterian Church, Akron Methodist Church, Keota Methodist Church and United Presbyterian Church of Washington.

His memory will be cherished by his wife, Lois Holland of Washington; his three sons, Tony (Karen) Holland of Carlyle, IL, Kent (Deb) Holland of Washington and Jon Holland of Iowa City and his four grandchildren, Christopher (Cheryl) Holland, Stephanie (Seth Luebbers) Holland, Cassie Holland and Michelle Holland.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Cressie Belle Holland and two sisters, Zelma (Leroy) Musgrove and Lois (Glenn) Robertson.
