Iona "Onie" Johnson, 88 of Montezuma passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Montezuma United Methodist Church. Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with an Eastern Star service to follow. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Montezuma Ambulance, Montezuma United Methodist Church or Grinnell Regional Hospice.
Iona Irene Johnson, daughter of Clint C. and Ivah (Hanawalt) Icenbice was born on January 29, 1925 in Deep River, Iowa. She graduated from Deep River High School in 1942. On March 2, 1947, Onie was united in marriage to Farrell R. Johnson. To this union two children were born, Terry and Sheryl. Farrell and Onie farmed in the Deep River area all of their life. Onie was a typical farmers wife, giving a helping hand when needed. Onie also worked at Miracle Recreation in Grinnell. Onie was a loving wife, caring mother and gracious grandmother. Onie enjoyed camping; especially at the Iowa State Fair, where they camped for nearly 60 years She also enjoyed quilting, the Chicago Cubs and spending time with her family. Onie was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church, Lafayette Chapter No. 232 Order of the Easter Star and the Sunshine Sister.
She is survived by her children, Terry (Jane) Johnson of New Hampton and Sheryl Johnson of Fort Myers, FL; four grandchildren, Allen (Tanya) Johnson, Aaron (Amanda) Johnson, Ann (Jesse Stock) Johnson and Mariah Meissner and three great-grandchildren, Olivia Johnson, Reed Johnson and Julia Johnson.
Iona was preceded in death by her parents, Clint and Ivah Icenbice; her husband, Farrell Johnson in 2005; a grandson, Sean Meissner; a brother, Kenneth Icenbice; and infant twin sisters, Muriel and Mariam.
